AKRON CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL GALA

This was a very special, once-in-a-lifetime event to plan and design. This was a party to celebrate Bill Considine, the head of Akron Children’s Hospital, who was retiring after 40 years. He is an amazing man who worked tirelessly and selflessly for years to get the hospital on the world map, and his efforts have helped thousands of children in need. Through meetings with his wife and working closely with the hospital’s diligent steering committee, we collaborated to create a really fun and exciting event. The design inspiration was whimsical and colorful and fun, childlike but sophisticated. The ceiling lighting was probably my favorite feature of the event, complete with spinning pinwheel patterns which it turns out are the unofficial symbol of the hospital. An assortment of bright solid and patterned linens was used, and a colorful array of florals graced each table for an added splash of color. The hospital’s dance group, Dance Unlimited, made up of some wonderfully talented kids, got the crowd of 1000 guests ready to dance, while headlining the night’s festivities were the one and only Spinners, who sounded just as good as the records they made decades ago!
